The Minnesota Vikings are mourning the loss of rookie defensive back Khyree Jackson.
Jackson died in an auto accident this weekend at the age of 24. Oregon insider James Crepea was the first to report the awful news.
“We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following an overnight car accident. Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident,” a statement from the Vikings read.
“I am absolutely crushed by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said in a statement. “His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches.”
Jackson’s mom received a call earlier this morning, per TMZ.
Jackson started his collegiate career at a community college before transferring to Alabama for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In those two seasons, he compiled 14 total tackles and two passes defended.
He then took his talents to Oregon for the 2023 season and finished with 34 total tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, and seven passes defended.
The Vikings selected him in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and saw him as a great piece for their secondary heading into this season.
Our thoughts are with Jackson’s family and friends.
