The Minnesota Vikings’ redzone ineptitude against the Detroit Lions was among the worst in recent NFL history. The Vikings ran 14 plays in the redzone, but only one was successful, resulting in a 7.1% success rate. That is the lowest rate by any team over the past five years that has run at least ten redzone plays, according to Sterling Xie of Pro Football Network.
Success rate is an advanced metric that Pro Football Reference began using in 2023. They define the stat as a play that gains at least 40% of yards required on 1st down, 60% of yards required on 2nd down, and 100% on 3rd or 4th down.
This led to the Vikings scoring only six points on four redzone trips as they settled for two field goals and missed two fourth-down conversions. Minnesota entered the game scoring touchdowns on 59.6% of redzone trips.
