Winning NFL teams have a problem they wish they didn’t have to deal with, but it complements what they have built. They have to worry about their assistants on the coaching staff and within the front office exploring different opportunities for larger roles.
For the Minnesota Vikings, one of their assistant coaches is emerging as a favorite around the league as a potential riser.
Assistant quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski has been interviewing for offensive coordinator positions around the NFL. According to Albert Breer, at just 29 years old, he is seen as a fast riser among coaching ranks.
Udinski interviewed with the Patriots and Seahawks for their offensive coordinator position. While the Patriots hired former assistant Josh McDaniels, the Seahawks have interviewed Udinski in person for the role, and he is considered a finalist.
If it isn’t this hiring cycle, eventually, the Vikings assistant will be spreading his wings and taking a job somewhere else. It isn’t a slight to the Vikings, it is a credit to Kevin O’Connell and his development of players and coaches alike.
