First off, I want to say how horrible of a tragedy these fires are. I am in no way rooting for anything bad to happen to the City of Los Angeles or it’s residents. My thoughts are with those who are impacted by these events. I hope they are able to contain the fire soon and would be delighted if that happened so fast the game stayed in LA.
The Minnesota Vikings are scheduled to travel to take on the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football. If you are paying attention to the news, you’ve heard about the terrible fires happening in Southern California. The fire is ~15 miles from Sofi Stadium. The NFL will likely have to make the decision to relocate the game. The air quality alone will be enough of a reason, but having thousands of people travel in for a football game seems irresponsible. The situation isn’t likely to improve fast enough to keep the game in Los Angeles.
That all being said, Las Vegas and Arizona are the two most likely candidates for the game. The NFL would be giving the Vikings an unfair advantage if they moved it to Minnesota. It would be awesome, but very surprising. Las Vegas has the new stadium and is an easy travel for Los Angeles residents. They also would have the infrastructure to easily accommodate additional travelers on short notice. During the pandemic, San Francisco’s home games were moved to Arizona due to local restrictions. San Francisco would keep the game in California, but I don’t think that’s important to the NFL.
