Vikes Views: Nincompoop of the Week Vikings at Packers

The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers 31-29. Missed Field Goals, questionable calls, dropped punts, and plenty of nincompoopery to go around.

Jalen Nailor – Why is Nailor a Nincompoop? He started the Green Bay comeback. Right before half he was fielding a punt and lost it in the sun. Instead of letting it go, being up 28 points, he tries to catch it. Muffed punt setup the touchdown. You can’t give away 7 points like that. It nearly spurred on a huge comeback.

Jordan Love – Why is Love a Nincompoop? He was a turnover machine. The first interception was a brilliantly designed play by Flores and execution by Grugier-Hill. The others were bad decisions. If he stayed calm and protected the ball more, it would’ve been a different story on Sunday.

Brayden Narveson – Why is Narveson a Nincompoop? He went 0/2 on FGs for the Packers on Sunday. He was so bad at his job the Packers went for it on 4th and 10 instead of attempting a 52 yard Field Goal in the 2nd quarter. They also went for it on a 4th and 8 in the 3rd. They lost by 2 points. Narveson being mediocre at his job would’ve likely led to a win by Green Bay.

Matt LaFleur – Why is LaFleur a Nincompoop? It’s his poor game management. The Vikings were falling apart around him and if he stood still for a minute he would’ve realized it. They were marching up and down the field with ease. The overall feel from his team was off. A better coached team would’ve won that game.

Kevin O’Connell – Why is KOC a Nincompoop? I can’t give him all the credit in the world when the team blows the opponent out of the water and not give him some when the team nearly blows a 28 point lead. Just like the San Francisco game that was closer than it needed to be. The Texans might have been closer too if they converted a couple of 4th downs. The 1st half has been great from KOC, but the offense seems to stutter in the 2nd half of games.

NFL Officiating – Why are the refs Nincompoops? KOC went 3 for 3 on challenges and there probably could’ve been a 4th. They also somehow upheld an interception where the Packers defender clearly didn’t possess the ball until out of bounds. It’s not one particular ref, but a general statement about it. The inconsistency is bad. It’s hard to watch a Kansas City game these days. The refs need to be full time employees. Pay them $350k a year and you’d have people lined up. There’s a much longer piece I can write and probably will. How many 65 year olds are going to get run over while holding these ridiculous chains to measure first downs?
