The Minnesota Vikings aren’t playing this week. They’re 5-0 and back home resting. The Jets chose to not have their bye after the London game and will play Monday Night. I have a love/hate relationship with the bye week. It can be hard to get into sports when you don’t have your favorite team playing. It can also be fun to be able to watch the Red Zone and not focus on one game.
If you are a hardcore fan, there is plenty to root for. Lions loss, Packers loss, Bears loss, and obviously plenty of other teams to root for/against. You also get the opportunity to see other teams playing in more detail. You aren’t focused on every play of the Vikings so you can look in on other teams. Get a feel for how they are doing. It’s more relaxing and can be more enjoyable at times.
There is also the fantasy football angle. If you’re playing this weekend and you’re a fan of the Vikings, you might have some players on the bye. Get in there and root on your WR3 to get that TD to push you over the top. Watch the Red Zone and see all the scoring. Feel the devastation as your opponent’s guy goes off for 3 TDs. You aren’t rooting for the purple, but you’re rooting for those names on your “roster”.
I say all this and realize football takes a lot of us away from living life. If you are a fisher, hiker, or whatever, it’s a great time to get outdoors and take a break from the TV. Shame it’s not hunting season for some of you. It’s also a great weekend to take the significant other out somewhere nice. Do all the fall stuff you’ve been getting begged to do. Knock off a few things on the to do list.
Anyways, I am not one to judge because someone values things outside of football more than football. I also don’t judge if you are still sitting there from noon until midnight soaking it all in. I’ll be watching because I can’t get enough, but enjoy your bye week any way you’d like.
