Another accolade for Sammy Darts
After putting up the best game of his NFL career in the Minnesota Vikings’ 42-21 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, it’s only right that quarterback Sam Darnold get recognized for it. He got that recognition on Wednesday when he was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 14.
Darnold completed 22-of-28 passes against Atlanta for 347 yards and five touchdowns in Minnesota’s victory. The yardage and touchdown numbers Darnold put up in the win were both career highs. In the fourth quarter alone, he completed 10-of-11 passes for 128 yards and a pair of scores
Darnold was recognized earlier this season as the NFC Offensive Player of the Month in September. This is the second time in his career that he’s garnered an Offensive Player of the Week Award, as he also won the award in Week 6 of the 2019 season when he was with the New York Jets.
This makes Darnold the tenth player to win a weekly award during the Kevin O’Connell era, and the first one to win an Offensive Player of the Week Award since josh Dobbs won it for his heroics. . .also against Atlanta. . .in Week 9 of last season. He’s also the Vikings’ second weekly award winner for this season, joining Jonathan Greenard, who was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week back in Week 3.
On the season, Darnold has completed 68.4% of his passes and has already set a career-high for a season with 28 touchdown passes, a total that trails only Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson in the category.
Congratulations to Sam Darnold on being named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 14 of the 2024 NFL season!
