The Vikings announced Saturday that Hall of Fame coach Bud Grant has passed away. He was 95 years old.
“We are absolutely devastated to announce legendary Minnesota Vikings head coach and Hall of Famer Bud Grant has passed away this morning at age 95,” the team said in a statement. “We, like all Vikings and NFL fans, are shocked and saddened by this terrible news.”
Grant coached the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1957-1966 before becoming the head coach of the Vikings.
During his lengthy run in Minnesota, Grant had a 158-96-5 record. He led the franchise to four Super Bowl appearances, 11 division titles and one league championship.
In 1986, Grant transitioned from head coach to consultant for the Vikings. It’s a title that he held up until this year.
Grant’s legacy with the Vikings will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with Grant’s loved ones during this difficult time.
