The NFL community learned this Saturday that Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson was killed in a car accident. He was just 24 years old.
The Vikings selected Jackson in the fourth round of this year’s draft. There was a lot of interest in the former Oregon cornerback, especially since he earned All-Pac-12 honors in 2023.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning posted a brief yet heartfelt message about Jackson on social media. He coached the talented cornerback last season.
“RIP Khyree… Love you @Real_Khyree at a loss for words,” Lanning wrote. “I will miss your smile. Great player better person.”
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell also spoke highly about Jackson’s charismatic personality.
“I am absolutely crushed by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team,” O’Connell said. “His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”
Jackson passed away in his hometown of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
Our thoughts are with Jackson’s loved ones.
