The Minnesota Vikings are in the J.J. McCarthy era after taking him in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
McCarthy could be the team’s starting quarterback this season, assuming he can beat out Sam Darnold during training camp. Kirk Cousins had been the starter for the last several seasons before signing with the Atlanta Falcons when free agency opened.
Star wideout Justin Jefferson has had the chance to work with McCarthy throughout this offseason and is impressed by him. His locker is also right next to McCarthy’s in the locker room so McCarthy can go to him if he needs anything.
“They want me to be that guy that J.J. can always talk to and ask questions,” Jefferson said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk). “He’s definitely that type of kid. He definitely wants to ask questions. He wants to learn how to be a top quarterback. He wants to learn how to become a problem in this league.”
Jefferson and McCarthy could turn into one of the top quarterback/wide receiver duos in the league if the latter lives up to the hype.
If McCarthy wins the starting gig, his first regular season game will be against the New York Giants on September 8.
