Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy is unfortunately getting trolled on social media this weekend because of an errant pass that aired on ESPN.
During Friday’s episode of “NFL Live,” the crew shared footage of McCarthy throwing at rookie minicamp. One of his pass attempts was so bad that fans couldn’t help but mock him.
“JJ McCarthy looks great in rookie minicamp,” an Ohio State fan sarcastically said.
Another fan wrote, “Between him and Daniel Jones I can’t tell the difference.”
Of course, there are also a ton of people defending McCarthy. One pass at practice isn’t exactly a great indicator of who he’ll be at the next level.
Besides, McCarthy was just warming up his arm. He made a few impressive throws later on in the day, per a report from ESPN.
Here’s the pass from McCarthy that’s going viral:

McCarthy didn’t seem bothered by this miscue. In fact, he sounded like a player who thoroughly enjoyed his first day of camp.
“It didn’t feel like my first day,” McCarthy said. “I’ve been going over the offense for a long time now. So being able to [go] out there and perform and execute, that’s new, but it was nothing that was overwhelming or too much.”
The Vikings are hoping McCarthy can be their starting quarterback for a very long time.
