As Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins heads into free agency there is all kinds of speculation as to where he’ll wind up signing. But one analyst might have answered an equally interesting question: How much money is he going to get?
In a feature for ESPN, NFL insider Field Yates said that he expects Cousins to cash in in a big way like he did back in 2018. He speculated that Cousins could sign a two-year deal that’s fully guaranteed for $100 million.
“No need to overthink this one, as Cousins is going to cash in once again, despite being just 4½ months removed from a torn right Achilles. He was playing outstanding football at the time of his injury last season and is the best free agent quarterback available in a thin market and in a league with a bunch of teams desperate for an upgrade. If you told me that Cousins winds up signing a two-year, $100 million fully guaranteed contract, I would not be stunned,” Yates said.
Cousins is the top quarterback on the open market by a wide margin and competition for his services is likely to be fierce. It certainly helps that the NFL made a massive increase to total cap space this year, giving teams a lot more wiggle room to make him that kind of an offer without losing the ability to address other needs.
Prior to his season-ending Achilles injury in the middle of the season, Cousins was on pace for yet another Pro Bowl-caliber season.
Will Cousins sign another nine-digit deal in free agency this offseason?
