A past front page writer pens a note to the future
Hi kids, I hope this finds you doing well, all things considered, it’s good to see you. Been awhile, hasn’t it? No, no, I’m not coming back full time. I put this on Twitter/X earlier today but Chris was gracious enough to let me put this on the front page this one time. I added a couple things from my tweet, but it’s 90% of what I put out there this morning.
Well, I still have the Super Bowl winning SMR promise from him, too. Just not this year.
I hope you enjoy, and it’s good to be back, if only for one day. —Ted
Dear JJ,
Hi, my name’s Ted, and as a guy that’s as much of an Ohio State football fan as much as I am a Vikings fan, you can assume how much I didn’t like you in college; in fact I completely despised you. When you waved goodbye to the fans in Columbus after your 2022 win, I was filled with rage…but deep down, it was then that I knew you had ‘it’.
I hate watched Michigan for the two years you started there, hoping for you to fail, but you never did. And I knew, after watching you post game press conference after your CFP loss to TCU that season, you were going to win the National Championship. And there was nothing Ohio State, or anyone else, was going to be able to do about it, no matter how much talent they had on their sideline. You were John Wick and you just found out someone killed your dog. I never admitted it publicly, but deep down…I knew. And I despised you for it.
Amor Fati, as you say.
But as a Minnesota Vikings fan, after you won the title, you became my QB1, because aside from your talent, it was those qualities that I wanted in the Vikings starting QB. When the Vikings drafted you, I put The Greatest Rivalry In All Of Sports aside, because I was elated when your name was announced as the Vikings 1st round pick, because my team just drafted John Wick. After you debut, I knew they made the right choice, and told anyone who would listen you were going to be the day one starter, but then we had to wait a year.
Amor Fati.
I have been a Vikings fan for over 50 years. What happened Monday Night seemed to be written before it happened, like it was somehow preordained before the season began. And the franchise is now in your hands. My father was a Vikings fan from their inaugural season in 1961, he passed in 2017, and we never witnessed a Super Bowl championship together.
My grandson is now a Vikings fan because of me, Justin Jefferson…and you. There is nothing I would love more than to enjoy watching you raise a Lombardi trophy wearing the purple and gold with him. You and KOC are the first coach and QB combo that give me hope since Bud Grant and Fran Tarkenton that a Lombardi trophy is a realistic goal for this franchise.
Amor Fati.
Respectfully,
Ted
