As we inch closer to free agency, we continue to hear reports that the Minnesota Vikings could move on from Sam Darnold. The assumption is that the Vikings would have J.J. McCarthy be QB1 entering the 2025 season. But there is another name that has suddenly emerged as a possibility.
Adam Schefter appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday. Schefter suggested that Aaron Rodgers, who won’t be part of the New York Jets’ plans in 2025, could go to Minnesota.
“Is Minnesota going to lose Sam Darnold?” Schefter asked. “Are they going to bring him back?”
The move would be reminiscent of when Brett Favre joined the Vikings in 2009, leading the team to a 12-4 record and NFC Championship appearance.
But would it happen? As explained the other day, as much fun as the idea is, at least for non-Vikings fans, the move would make little sense. Rodgers likely won’t want to go somewhere with a first-round quarterback waiting in the wings. And would he even see eye-to-eye with a head coach younger than him?
This probably isn’t the last time we hear someone suggest Rodgers to Minnesota, but the chances of the move coming to fruition are slim.
