The Minnesota Vikings have many difficult questions to answer this offseason before they prepare for the 2025 season. One that no one is talking about is, “Will Shaq Griffin be back in Minnesota in 2025?”
Griffin signed with the Vikings last offseason when the team was dealing with several secondary injuries. The veteran cornerback emerged with some splash plays in key moments. While he isn’t a household name, he is a safe option for the team.
With no cornerbacks under contract in 2025, the Vikings are going to have some new faces, most likely on the depth chart.
That begs the question: What sort of contract might Griffin be looking at on the free agent market, and should the Vikings shell out for a safe, reliable option at cornerback?
The former Seattle Seahawk and Jacksonville Jaguar cornerback had 41 tackles, four pass breakups, and intercepted two more. The veteran cornerback didn’t start any games, but he was used in unique ways by Brian Flores, and it paid off.
Griffin is projected to have a contract value of just under $3.3 million for 2025. With the Vikings projected to have over $60 million in cap space, they can easily accommodate this type of deal for Griffin and have plenty left over to improve their offensive line situation.
It is tough to judge if Griffin will be back as he is a veteran and has bounced around the league. Brian Flores appreciates the work of veterans in his secondary so his influence could bring him back for 2025.
