The offseason has begun!
With the World Series over and roster deadlines looming, the Twins have made their first transactions of the offseason. After previously (and unsurprisingly) declining options on Kyle Farmer and Manuel Margot, they exercised Jorge Alcala’s $1.5 million option for 2025.

Alcala had a very up-and-down year in 2024, getting demoted to St. Paul in the middle of a heated playoff race after a series of blowups. However, he still has electric stuff which is hard to come by for $1.5 million in today’s market. With the much-written-about payroll crunch the Twins already face, they will need Alcala to pitch like he did in the first half of the season and become a reliable back-end weapon.
The Twins also outrighted several players off of the 40-man roster ahead of the offseason. That group includes Scott Blewett, Randy Dobnak, Daniel Duarte, Yunior Severino, and Josh Winder. All five players cleared waivers and will remain with the organization for the time being, though could still be released in the future. The roster now sits at 35.
