I guess, On Your Jay.
- In something of an unexpected divisional blockbuster, the Cleveland Guardians are parting ways with Platinum Glove winner Andres Gimenez.
BREAKING: The Toronto Blue Jays are finalizing a trade to acquire three-time Gold Glove-winning second baseman Andrés Giménez from the Cleveland Guardians, sources tell ESPN.

- Originally required as part of the return in the Francisco Lindor trade with the New York Mets, the middle infielder’s trade shocked the fanbase after he put up 16.7 bWAR in the last three seasons alone, including over 7.0 bWAR in an All-Star 2022 campaign and four wins staked nearly to defense alone last season.
Let’s try this again: Andres Giménez and reliever Nick Sandlin going to Blue Jays. 1B/2B Spencer Horwitz part of return for Guardians. Apologies.

- And then, whoops! There goes Spencer Horwitz.
Guardians finalizing trade of 1B/2B Spencer Horwitz to the Pirates, source tells @TheAthletic. Horwitz is part of Guardians’ return from the Blue Jays for Andres Giménez and Nick Sandlin. Return to Guardians for Horwitz not yet known.

Per sources, the Guardians are getting Hartle, Luis Ortiz and Michael Kennedy from the Pirates in the Horwitz deal.
— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) December 11, 2024
- So at the end of the day, the Guardians — well-known for minor-league player development and diamond-in-the-rough identification — turn all those years of prime defense and team control from Gimenez into a selection of shrewdly-identified Pittsburgh Pirates prospects. This is one of those deals that, as it were, will have to “remain to be seen.”
- Veteran righty Alex Cobb is making Detroit his next stop. Welcome to the division, Alex!
Free-agent right-hander Alex Cobb in agreement with Tigers on one-year contract, sources tell @TheAthletic. Deal is pending a physical.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 9, 2024
- Cobb is one of them “old guys”. Don’t believe me? What if I told you he was teammates with Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez? Bet that’s the last time you’ll EVER thinking of distrusting my judgment. Also, Wade Davis started 29 games for that team, which is pretty amusing in retrospect, and serves as your Kansas City Royals news for the week.
- Some other Tiger targets may include closer Kirby Yates and infielder Ha-Seong Kim.
- And of course, Detroit — like any other organization operating in reality — will at least be making a pass at Roki Sasaki, same as the Twins.
Count the Tigers in on Roki Sasaki.
“Every team in baseball wants Sasaki. We do, too,” Scott Harris said. “We’re hard at work on a presentation to position this organization as appealing to Roki and his agent. It’s going to be pretty fierce competition and we’re hard at work to make our case.”

- The active Tigers haven’t been counted out of the Alex Bregman sweepstakes either, though many current signs are pointing to the New York Yankees this week.
There’s a sense that Alex Bregman could be the next big free agent to sign. The Astros, Red Sox, Yankees and Tigers are among those in the mix, per sources.

- Rounding out the extra-divisional trades, the Chicago White Sox have shipped more talent out of the Central, because Lord knows they had way too much on their 26-man roster in 2024.
BREAKING: The Boston Red Sox are finalizing a trade to acquire left-hander Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox, sources tell ESPN. The deal is in the medical phase. Not official, but trending toward it.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) December 11, 2024
- If the names Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth, and Wikelman Gonzalez don’t mean anything to you now, then don’t worry — Chicago’s development program will make sure they don’t mean anything to you in the future, either.

- Thankfully, there is hope on the horizon on the South Side.
A source confirms to https://t.co/G34Or1gtT9 that the White Sox have agreed to terms with OF Mike Tauchman.
