Elsewhere in Twins Territory:

- One of the hottest free agents still out there is Japanese phenom, Roki Sasaki. As signing him won’t require an astronomical contract, since he’s considered an amateur international free agent, Do-Hyoung Park at MLB.com looks at whether the Twins have a shot to sign him.
- After Colin Cowherd specifically called out the Twins on Ryen Russillo’s podcast for not making a run at Juan Soto, Tom Schreier at Zone Coverage sets the table for how the Twins options’ to operate in the “new MLB”.

In the World of Baseball:
- Unlike previous years, Winter Meetings proved fruitful for the hot stove, with a number of big-name free agents and blockbuster trades happening in the last week.
- After missing out on Juan Soto, the Yankees got busy and signed former Atlanta ace Max Fried to an eight-year, $218 million contract and then traded for Brewers closer, Devin Williams, sending pitcher Nestor Cortes and prospect Caleb Durbin to Milwaukee.
- Not to be outdone by their AL East rivals, the Red Sox made a big trade, acquiring breakout ace Garrett Crochet from the White Sox for four prospects.
- Unlike their Southside neighbors, the Cubs made a big splash, trading for outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Astros. Corner infielder Isaac Paredes and pitcher Hayden Wesneski were sent to Houston.
- Cleveland continued the trend of AL Central teams cutting salary by trading second baseman Andrés Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays.
- Other notable transactions this week involved Nathan Eovaldi (re-signed with Rangers), Jake Burger (traded from Marlins to Rangers), Jordan Romano (Phillies), and Yimi Garcia (Blue Jays). Notable free agents that are still available include Corbin Burnes, Alex Bergman, and Pete Alonso.
