In the World of Baseball:
- The Silver Slugger Award finalists were announced last week and the nominees include two Twins, Carlos Santana at first base, and Willi Castro at utility.
- The Marlins have filled their opening at manager, hiring Dodgers first-base coach, Clayton McCullough.
- The Chiba Lotte Marines have announced they are officially posting Roki Sasaki, giving MLB teams 30 days to negotiate with Sasaki. And no, there is no chance that the Twins somehow manage to sign him.
- Qualifying offers were tendered to thirteen players last week. As the Twins dealt with last season with Sonny Gray, tendering a qualifying offer does not guarantee that you’ll sign the player, but rather that you can receive draft pick compensation if another team picks the player up. However, as we saw with several players in the past, attaching a qualifying offer can be a bit of a poison pill and players can go unsigned for months. It would be incredibly surprising if the Twins went after any of these players in the upcoming months.
