East Coast vs West Coast
There have been many iterations of Yankees vs Dodgers in the World Series.
When the Dodgers were Brooklyn’s Bums, the matchup occurred in (deep breath): 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955, & 1956. The Yanks took them all except for ‘55.
In 1963, the now-LA Dodgers would sweep the Bombers behind Sandy Koufax’s prime.
In 1977 & 1978, the Yankees would bounce back and win both Fall Classics over Los Angeles, with Reggie Jackson cementing his Mr. October status.
Following the strike-addled 1981 season, the Dodgers rode Fernando-mania (RIP) to a NYY-beating title.
The next round of this East Coast vs West Coast “rivalry” will play out in 2024. With Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, & Giancarlo Stanton mashing for the Yankees and Shohei Ohtani starring for the Dodgers, it sets up to be an all-time classic. Will it live up to the billing? Let’s talk about it here!
