Ten years ago this coming May, my sister and I jumped in the car and did a baseball road trip. One stop was St. Louis, Missouri for a couple of Twins/Cardinals clashes!
Busch Stadium remains in my top tier of ballpark experiences. The Gateway Arch looming over the proceedings is epic, the park is full of historical references (I distinctly recall the Gashouse Grill concession stand), and there is a Hardees—the one fast food burger I really enjoy, for some reason—inside the concourse!
But the real draw of Cardinals baseball: the knowledge & intensity (in a good way, from what I could tell) of their fanbase. There was no canned “Get On Your Feet!” videos or clapping musical prompts. It was also pretty sparse—frivolity-wise—between innings. A Cards crowd is there for the baseball and they know when to cheer. Definitely an environment I could get used to!
A few pics from 2015…
Today, the Twins are looking for Win 1 on the young season in the place where Byron Buxton recorded his first major league hit (the one game in that ‘15 series my sister and I didn’t see, of course). Thus far, the up-top trio of Matt Wallner, Carlos Correa, & Buck have been on mute—something they can hopefully turn around against STL starter Andre Pallante.
Who will be the first hero (Lord knows we’re all holding out for one) to bag a 2025 victory…
