Fans often dismiss the human element of these transactions, justifying it by the extraordinary salaries that so many of them command. But all the money in the world couldn’t take the initial sting away for Conley. “You can make a lot of money, but if you get punched in the face, you’re still like, ‘Oh my God, that hurt,’ ” he said. “Yeah, I’ll be fine. But at this moment, it’s hurting me. So let me feel this for a second here and then move on.”

This lineup has become a thing for the Wolves this season: Towns, Reid, Anderson, Edwards, Alexander-Walker
The Wolves most-used lineup this season has obviously been the starters (Gobert, Towns, McDaniels, Edwards, Conley). And the second most-used lineup has been the starters… pic.twitter.com/OJO5W7k4n2 – 12:36 PM

More on this storyline
Conley’s arrival in Minnesota has been a revelation for the Timberwolves. From the moment he landed, he has helped stabilize a team in desperate need of a steady hand on the wheel. With Conley at the helm this season, the Timberwolves have been one of the league’s biggest surprises. They are 11-3 and in first place in the Western Conference, the best start in franchise history. And Conley is the 36-year-old straw who is stirring the drink. “It’s probably the best situation for me at this stage of my career,” he said. “Not only do we have a team that can be competitive to a contending team in no time, but I also get to be a part of that, like I’m not being thrown to the side where they say, ‘Hey, you know, you’re done playing. You’re not going to play much. It’s a leadership role.’ ” -via The Athletic / November 24, 2023
Gobert left the U.S. early last offseason to work with the French national team, but Edwards stayed longer in Minnesota. Every day, the Wolves picked one player who happened to be around — Reid, Josh Minott, Leonard Miller — to mimic Gobert and run pick-and-rolls with Edwards. They practiced pocket passes, skips to the corner, thread-the-needle slips against blitzes, even lobs — though they had no target nearly as tall as Gobert. “Rudy,” Finch said, “is kind of hard to replicate.” Before games now, Edwards huddles with Conley to discuss schemes they might see and passes that might be available. “Every single game,” Edwards told ESPN. “That’s basically all Mike and I talk about.” -via ESPN / November 17, 2023
Christopher Hine: Anthony Edwards on what Mike Conley said to him late in the game: “Mike just tells me, ‘No more 3s, man. Get inside the three-point line. It ain’t falling.’ He pretty much just told me to get to the line. … My middy started to fall late. That helped me a lot.” -via Twitter @ChristopherHine / November 13, 2023
