
Here’s how to catch all the Gophers action this weekend
It’s a super busy weekend of action for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. All the winter spots teams are back in action and some of the spring sports also are kicking their season into gear as the calendar flips over to February. Below is the full weekend schedule for the Gophers and how you can catch the action.
Friday January 31st:
Indoor Track and Field @ Meyo Invitational/ Midwest Classic 4 PM
The Gopher indoor track and field team heads to Indiana for a pair of indoor meets. A portion of the team will head to South Bend for the Meyo Invite hosted by Notre Dame, and the other portion will head to Indianapolis for the Midwest Classic. Action at the Midwest Classic begins at 4 PM, while the Meyo Invite begins at 5:30. No streaming is available for either meet but live results are available HERE for the Meyo and HERE for the Midwest Classic.
Swimming and Diving vs Purdue/ Northwestern 4 PM B1G+
The Gophers swim and dive teams return home to host Purdue and Northwestern in a tri-meet this weekend. Action on Friday begins at 4 PM with diving. The meet will stream live on Big Ten Plus.
Women’s Hockey vs #2 Ohio State 6 PM B1G +
It’s a big weekend for the #3 ranked Gopher women’s hockey team as they host #2 Ohio State at Ridder Arena this weekend. The Gophers and Buckeyes are currently tied for second place in the WCHA behind Wisconsin. Minnesota has not has success against the Buckeyes in the last few seasons. Ohio State are 6-2-2 against the Gophers in the last 10 meetings. The Buckeyes took five points from the Gophers in their first meeting in Columbus back in November. Ohio State won on Friday 4-3, and won the shootout after a 1-1 tie in game two on Saturday.
Minnesota will need a huge weekend from freshman goaltender Hannah Clark. Since senior Skyler Vetter went down with a foot injury, Clark has taken over the net and has been great for the Gophers. She enters the weekend with a 17-3-1 record on the season with a .916 save percentage and a 1.84 goals-allowed average.
Faceoff on Friday is set for 6 PM and will stream live on Big Ten Plus.
Men’s Hockey vs #17/18 Wisconsin Badgers 7PM Fox9/ B1G+
The #4 ranked Gopher hockey team will look to bounce back from a rough weekend at Michigan State last weekend when the Badgers come to town. A full weekend preview is HERE. Faceoff is set for 7 PM on Friday with the game airing in Minnesota on Fox 9 and streaming via B1G+.
Saturday February 1st:
Indoor Track and Field @ Meyo Invitational/ Midwest Classic 10 AM
Day two of the indoor track and field kicks off at 10 AM Saturday morning at the Midwest Classic and at 10:30 at Notre Dame. The same live scoring links above will work for day 2. ACC Network Extra will carry a portion of the Meyo Invite from 1-3 PM on Saturday afternoon.
Tennis vs Air Force @ Ames, Iowa 10 AM
The Gopher tennis team hits the road again for a pair of matches this weekend. They open play on Saturday morning when they will face Air Force in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State. Minnesota is 1-2 in the spring season after a trip to Florida last weekend where they defeated Middle Tennessee before losing to Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Atlantic.
There is no streaming or live scoring for Saturday’s match.
Swimming and Diving vs Purdue/ Northwestern 11 AM B1G+
Day two of the tri-meet between the Gophers, Wildcats and Boilermakers kicks off at 11 AM Saturday morning. The meet will again be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
Men’s Basketball vs Washington 11 AM Big Ten Network
The Gopher men’s basketball team will look to bounce back after a rough game at #7 Michigan State on Tuesday night. The Washington Huskies come to The Barn in last place in the Big Ten sitting at just 1-8 in conference play. This and their next game at Penn State are must wins for the Gophers if they want to make sure they stay in the Top 15 in the Big ten and eligible for the Big Ten Tournament.
Tip is set for 11 AM and will air live on Big Ten Network.
Women’s Hockey vs #2 Ohio State 2 PM B1G+
Game two of the series between the Gophers and Buckeyes is set for a 2PM faceoff at Ridder Arena. The game will stream on Big Ten Plus.
Gymnastics vs Washington 4 PM B1G+
The Gopher gymnastics team returns home to host the Washington Huskies in Big Ten action. Minnesota is 2-0 in Big Ten action after a win at Iowa last weekend. Minnesota is the better team as headed into the meet this are 4-0 and ranked #18 overall. The Huskies come in 0-2 in the Big Ten and are #42 in the nation this season.
The action begins at 4 PM and will steam on B1G+.
Men’s Hockey vs Wisconsin 5 PM Fox 9/ B1g+
Game two of the Border Battle between the Gophers and Badgers is set for a 5 PM faceoff at 3M Arena at Mariucci. The game will air on Fox 9 and stream on B1g+.
Sunday February 2nd:
Women’s Golf @ Puerto Rico Classic 7:30 AM
The Gopher women’s golf team kicks off their spring season on Sunday at the Puerto Rico Classic played at the Grand Reserve Golf Club and hosted by Purdue. Minnesota will face an 18 team field that features several of the best from the Big Ten and the SEC. Round one kicks off on Sunday with rounds two and three to follow on Monday and Tuesday. Tennis @ Iowa State 11 AM
The Gopher tennis team stays in Ames for another day and will face the host Iowa State Cyclones in a match at begins at 11 AM. The match will be streamed live on the Iowa State website HERE.
Wrestling vs #12 Rutgers Noon Big Ten Network
The #8 Gopher wrestling team will host a ranked matchup against #12 Rutgers when the Scarlet Knights come to the Pav on Sunday. Rutgers knocked off #10 Illinois at home last weekend and are 3-2 in conference action with their losses to #1 Penn State and #4 Ohio State.
Minnesota is 6-0 all time against Rutgers and should have the advantage on Sunday. Minnesota will have the higher ranked wrestler in 7 of the ten bouts led by #1 Gable Steveson at heavyweight facing off against #8 Yaraslau Slavikouski for Rutgers. The meet is schedules for a Noon start and will air live on Big Ten Network.
Women’s Basketball @ #1 UCLA 2 PM Big Ten Network
The second leg of a Gopher BTN doubleheader features the Gopher women’s basketball team headed to Westwood to face undefeated at #1 ranked UCLA. Minnesota will need to try and shut down one of the best players in the country in UCLA center Lauren Betts. It will not be an easy task for the Gophers who lost at #4 USC Thursday night 82-69.
