Here is how you can keep track of the Gophers this weekend
Another week down, and another full weekend of Gophers action both at home and on the road. A always we have a full schedule on how you can catch all the action this weekend both in person and from your couch. Here is this weekend’s schedule:
Friday January 24th:
Women’s Hockey vs Bemidji State Noon B1G+
The Minnesota Golden Gophers women’s hockey team plays their first ever Field Trip Game on Friday as the Gophers host Bemidji State at Ridder Arena. With Saturday’s game early due to Hockey Day Minnesota, Friday’s game time had to be moved up, and thus the Gophers decided to open up the game to thousands of school kids from across Minnesota. The game is a complete sellout and should be a fun atmosphere for the players.
This will be the fourth and fifth games between the Gophers ans Beavers this season with the Gophers a perfect 3-0. They swept the Beavers in Bemidji in November before picking up a win at the US Hockey Hall of Fame Women’s Classic in Lakeville on New Year’s Day.
The Gophers are ranked #3 in the country and sit in third place in the WCHA standings as well. Last weekend they swept a home and home series against Minnesota State.
Faceoff on Friday is set for Noon and will steam live on B1G+.
Indoor Track and Field Jack Johnson Classic 3:15 PM
The Gophers host their man indoor track and field meet of this season this weekend when the Jack Johnson Classic takes place in the U of M Fieldhouse. Friday’s Day 1 action begins at 3:15 p.m. CT with the pentathlon 60m hurdles. The next events in the pentathlon will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the previous event. The series is for control of the top of the Big Ten standings as the Spartans have a one point edge atop the standings 32-31. Minnesota will be looking for revenge against the Spartans for the series the two teams played in Minneapolis in Mid-December when the Gophers only had nine forwards. The Spartans took five of a possible six points this weekend including a come from behind win on Saturday where the Gophers blew a three goal lead in the third period. Friday’s game will only be available via streaming on B1G+ with a 6 PM faceoff.
Wrestling @ Wisconsin 7 PM B1G+
The Gopher grapplers head across the border for a Border Battle meet at Wisconsin. Minnesota is coming off of a win over Michigan at the Pav last weekend and will look to dominate the Badgers. Minnesota is ranked #7 in the nation and are5-1 and 1-1 in the Big Ten while Wisconsin comes in just 4-7 and 0-3 in conference. The Gophers should have the higher ranked wrestler in all ten matches. The Gopher wrestling team’s second match of the weekend takes place Noon on Sunday as the Gophers head down to Evanston to face Northwestern. The Wildcats are even worse than the Badgers and it again should be a walk for the Gophers to pick up the easy win. The action will stream on B1G+
