A look ahead to who, where, and when the Gophers are playing this weekend
It’s the second week pf January and while classes haven’t started for the second semester yet, the winter sports seasons are starting to pick up stream. Here is a list of all the Minnesota Golden Gophers action this weekend and where you can catch in in person or via TV or streaming.
Friday January 10th:
Indoor Track and Field @ Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational, Houston, TX 11AM
The Gopher indoor track and field team kicks off their 2025 season in Houston at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. The meet will begin at 11 a.m. with field events with running events scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Minnesota returns several finishers from last year’s team most notable reigning Big Ten weight throw champion Anthonette Nabwe, and third place in the 60 meters Maja Mauncbach. Swimming @ Arizona State 3 PM
Both the men’s and women’s Gophers swim and dive teams are in Tempe to take on Arizona State on Friday in a battle between ranked teams. The Gopher women’s squad is currently ranked No. 23 by CSCAA, while the men are ranked No. 24. Arizona State’s men’s program is ranked No. 3 by CSCAA, and the women’s program is No. 14.
It was a good start to the season for both Gopher squads as the men’s squad currently sits 4-1 and the women sit at 6-1. Both programs’ sole loss came against conference foe Wisconsin back on Nov. 1.
The meet will be held at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz., and will begin at 3:00 p.m. CST/2:00 p.m. EST. Fans can follow along on Meet Mobile (paid subscription).
Men’s Hockey @ Ohio State 4PM B1G+
The Gopher men restart Big Ten play in 2025 by heading to Columbus for a ranked battle against Ohio State. Minnesota is ranked #3 and is tied for first place in the Big Ten with Michigan State headed into the weekend while the Buckeyes are four points back in the standings in third place and enter the weekend ranked #11 in the country. Friday’s game was bumped two hours earlier than originally schedule as not to confirmed with Ohio State’s Football team in the Cotton Bowl later Friday night. The game on Friday will only be available to stream via Big Ten Plus.
Men’s Basketball @ Wisconsin 6 PM Peacock
The Gopher men will look to try and upset the Badgers on Friday night for their first Big Ten win of the season. Minnesota lost a heartbreaker in double overtime to Ohio State at the barn on Monday. Wisconsin enters the game with a 12-3 overall record and has rattled off four straight wins. The Badgers also played on Monday night at Rutgers and won 75-63. UW dropped the two early December games, but it has defeated Iowa 116-85 and the Scarlet Knights to improve to 2-2 in league play. Tip is set for 6 PM and will be available only via Peacock.
Women’s Hockey vs St. Thomas 6 PM B1G+
The Gopher women’s hockey team will look to continue their winning ways against the Tommies when they face off in a WCHA series this weekend at Ridder Arena. Minnesota has never lost to St. Thomas in the programs history holding a perfect 18-0 record.
Minnesota will look to bounce back after a thrashing from Penn State last Saturday. Minnesota lost 6-2 at home and was down 4-0 after the first period. The Gophers will still be missing freshman defender Chloe Primerano who is with the Canadian U-18 Team at the World Championships as their captain. Faceoff is set for 6 PM on Friday and will stream on B1G+.
Saturday January 11th:
Women’s Hockey vs St. Thomas 2 PM Fox9+/ B1G+
It will be a quick turnaround for the Gophers and Tommies with the second game of their series set for puck drop just 20 hours after the first game began. Saturday’s game will air locally on Fox9+ as well.
Wrestling @ Nebraska 3:30PM BTN
It will be a ranked showdown on the mat Saturday afternoon as the #4 ranked Gophers head to Lincoln to face off against #6 Nebraska in a big Big Ten duel match. Minnesota is 4-0 on the season in duel matches, while Nebraska is 6-1 with a loss to #10 Norther Iowa. This will be the Big Ten opener for both squads.
It has the potential to be a classic as all ten matches could be ranked opponent vs ranked opponent including five potential top-ten matchups. They include 125 pounds where #7 Caleb Smith for Nebraska could face #5Cooper Flynn for the Gophers, at 141 pounds where Nebraska’s #6 Brock Hardy could see #8 Vance VomBaur for Minnesota, 157 Pounds featuring #5 Antrell Taylor for the Cornhuskers vs #10 Tommy Askey for Minnesota, 165 pounds where #7 Bubba Wilson could face #9 Andrew Sparks for Minnesota, and finally at 184 pounds where Nebraska’s #6 Silas Allred could face Minnesota’s #4 Max McEnelly. #1 ranked Gable Steveson is expected to continue his run though the Big Ten and is likely to see #24 Harley Andrews.
The match will begin and air at 3:30 PM on Big Ten Network.
Gymnastics @ New Hampshire 5 PM
The Gopher Gymnastics teams will look to start the season 2-0 as they head to the Granite State to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats at 5 PM Saturday. Minnesota opened their season with a win over Central Michigan at the Pav last Saturday. The meet will stream for free HERE.
Men’s Hockey @ Ohio State 5:30 PM BTN
The Gophers will have a doubleheader on BTN as right after the wrestling meet is over, the action will move to Columbus where the second game of the series between the Gophers and Ohio State will be aired.
Sunday January 12th:
Nothing. Not a single Gopher sporting event. Go outside. Watchin the NFL playoffs. Enjoy.
