The Gophers find a productive slot receiver in the portal
With leading receivers Daniel Jackson and Elijah Spencer walking out the door, head coach P.J. Fleck and wide receivers coach Matt Simon will head into the offseason with a room of inexperienced and unproven pass catchers. They’ve looked to the transfer portal for help and have found reinforcements, first with a commitment from Miami (Ohio) wide receiver Javon Tracy and now with a pledge from UCLA wide receiver Logan Loya.
Loya chose Minnesota over offers from Stanford and Cal. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

He was a four-star prospect when he signed with UCLA. Over five seasons with the Bruins, Loya caught a total of 109 passes for 1,314 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He was their leading receiver a season ago with 59 receptions for 655 receiving yards and five touchdowns. This season, Loya had a slow start before becoming a reliable target for UCLA quarterback Ethan Garbers. His best game came against Iowa, when he caught five passes for 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Expect Loya to compete for snaps in the slot next season.
