Bad news for Greg Schiano
The Minnesota Golden Gophers announced Saturday that defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman has signed a contract extension through the 2026 season.
No other details about the extension have been released.
The news comes on the heels of Rutgers defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak being named the head coach at UMass. Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano has picked the pocket of P.J. Fleck in the past to fill vacancies on his coaching staff, having previously hired Harasymiak, offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca, and former defensive line coach Jim Panagos when they were assistants at Minnesota. Hetherman had spent two seasons coaching linebackers at Rutgers before he was hired to replace Joe Rossi as defensive coordinator at Minnesota.
In his first year with the Golden Gophers, Hetherman’s defense ranks 22nd nationally in run defense, 16th in pass defense, and 13th in scoring defense.
