Maine Bears
Record: 8-6
KenPom Rank: 228
Based on the KenPom efficiency rankings, this would be our 2nd best win of the season. The last meeting for both clubs before the schedule turns exclusively to conference games. The Bears head to American East favorites, Vermont and the Gophers head to Michigan. Here is what it will take for the Gophers to get into double-digits wins for the first time in 2 years.
KEYS TO A GOPHER WIN
Turnovers are huge today – Maine has been very good at forcing turnovers and we have not been great at taking care of the ball.
Bear down on D – This Maine club has balanced scoring and a roster that is mostly returning from last season. There should be continuity and familiarity with this team and the Gophers need to be focused on playing sound defense.
Control the boards – Shooting will vary from night to night, but controlling the boards (especially against a team that isn’t rebounding great) will ensure that you can control tempo and not give up extra shots.
PREDICTION
To date, Maine is one of the better opponents we will face this season. But this is another game the Gophers should win. I expect Pharrel Payne and Dawson Garcia will have big days inside. As long as the backcourt isn’t turning the ball over, the Gophers will be fine.
Minnesota – 81
Maine – 68
