Quinnipiac are your college hockey national champions after a stunning win over Minnesota in overtime to win the title. But the way they got it does was far more amazing than simply getting it done.
With just one minute to play in regulation, Quinnipiac tied the game 2-2 on power play goal, forcing the first overtime in a Frozen Four Championship in over a decade. But it wound up being one of the shortest overtime sequences in the history of college sports.
A mere 10 seconds after the start of the sudden-death overtime, Quinnipiac scored the game-winning goal as a deep pass into Minnesota’s territory slipped past a Golden Gophers defender and into Jacob Quillan’s stick for the winner.
Sports fans across the country could hardly believe what they just witnessed, especially with the manner in which they did it:
Crazy win for Quinnipiac. Pull goalie with 3-plus minutes left in regulation and score to force OT, then win it just seconds in overtime to win school’s first-ever national title.
