The Gophers add depth at the defensive end position
With Jah Joyner headed to the NFL, the Minnesota Golden Gophers need to add depth behind Anthony Smith at defensive end for next season, and head coach P.J. Fleck and co. have found at least one reinforcement in Illinois State defensive end Steven Curtis.
Curtis committed to the Gophers on Sunday over offers from Kentucky, Boston College, and Cincinnati. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Curtis saw the field immediately as a true freshman with the Redbirds, appearing in 11 games. He took on a bigger role in his sophomore season, appearing in all 14 games and recording 46 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, 18 pressures, eight quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, and one pass break-up.
