Record: 3-3
KenPom Rank: 284
The Privateers are 3-3 but two of those wins are over non-D1 teams. Minnesota started the season strong and has been sliding back to looking like last year’s team. Tonight is their last opportunity to re-right the ship before a couple of Big Ten games in December.
KEYS TO A GOPHER WIN
Turnovers! – We are not great at taking care of the ball. It was a huge reason we lost to Missouri and it has been getting worse throughout the season. New Orleans is 14th nationally at forcing turnovers. This is not a great situation for Minnesota and they need to really take care of the ball tonight.
Offensive execution – This has not been a strength of this team, but they need to figure out how to execute their offense with more efficiency.
Contain Jordan Johnson – This kid can score! Johnson has had three games where he shot 50% from three, including going 6/12 on two different occasions. If the Privateers have a shot at winning, it will be because Johnson goes off.
PREDICTION
The way that this team generates steals concerns me a little.
With that said, the Gophers really should win this one. It may be closer than we’d like, but I expect we will dominate the paint and get to the free throw line a lot.
This game will be close in the last couple of minutes. Assuming we get fouled more than we turn it over in critical moments, Minnesota wins.
