The first Big Ten Championships of the winter season is here
The first Big Ten Championship meet of the winter season has arrived. The Minnesota Golden Gophers women’s swim and dive team is in Columbus this weekend for the 2025 Big Ten Championships. Action kicked off Wednesday night with a pair of relays and gets fully in gear on Thursday.
Minnesota enters the Big Ten Championships ranked #24 in the country in the most recent CSCAA 25 Rankings, which is the 6th best in the Big Ten. Minnesota is 8-3 overall on the season and 4-1 in the Big Ten. The team’s latest victory came on Feb. 1 during the Minnesota Tri-Dual against Northwestern and Purdue. One of Minnesota’s losses came at #17 Arizona State in January.
The Championships kicked off Wednesday night with a pair of events, the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay. The Gophers would finish in 7th place in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:37:33, nearly three seasons of Michigan who would win the event.
The second event was the 800 free relay where the Gophers again finished in 7th place. Their young team of a trio of sophomores and a freshman finished in 7:05:28 nearly 13 seconds slower than the Wolverines who again won the event.
Thursday’s prelims kick off at 10 AM with five finals beginning at 4:30 PM in the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 200 Free relay, and 1 Meter Diving.
