Recruiting season is starting to heat up for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, and head coach P.J. Fleck and co. made a splash on Friday by securing a verbal commitment from sought-after linebacker Emmanuel Karmo out of Robbinsdale.
Karmo is the No. 1-ranked prospect in the state of Minnesota according to 247 Sports.
I appreciate all the schools that have recruited me through this process. It’s been an amazing process for sure but with that said, I have made my decision. @77williehoward @TPatt17 @Coach_DeBo46 @Coach_Fleck @AllenTrieu #RTB #AGTG pic.twitter.com/59GfaSsvFH

Scouting Report
Karmo is a versatile defender who has played several positions during his high school career. Last season, he was primarily a stand-up 3-4 outside linebacker, a position that has allowed him to showcase his quickness and burst to the ball. Karmo has been a disruptive force in offensive backfields, blowing past blockers and closing the gap on ball carriers. As a former safety, he is comfortable dropping into pass coverage, as well. Minnesota seems to have Karmo pegged for the rush end position, but he could also see time at the will linebacker spot. Wherever he ultimately ends up, he should be a difference maker for the Gophers.
