100% committed
After an avalanche of verbal commitments for the Class of 2025 over the last week, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are looking ahead to 2026, with sophomore Forest Lake defensive end Howie Johnson committing to his home state program on Tuesday. Rocori offensive lineman Andrew Trout was the first 2026 recruit to grab an oar back in January.

Scouting Report
Johnson reportedly turned a lot of heads when he camped with the Golden Gophers earlier this week, drawing the attention of head coach P.J. Fleck and his coaching staff. He impressed them enough to earn a scholarship offer, which he then accepted shortly thereafter. Johnson’s camp performance highlighted his strength, quickness, and hands. He has good size, twitch, and bend, and plays with a high motor. Johnson has the potential to be a problem for offensive linemen in the Big Ten once he gets on campus in a couple years.
