The 2023 college football season is officially underway and many fans got their first opportunity to hear the great Gus Johnson do his first touchdown call of the season.
During yesterday’s Nebraska-Minnesota game on FOX, Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims bobbled a lateral that he was attempting to throw downfield. After corralling the ball, Sims was able to launch it 34 yards downfield to Alex Bullock for a touchdown.
“Now they’ll throw it back to Sims. Sims can’t grab it. He does finally. Delivers… It’s a touchdown! Wow! Alex Bullock. Wide open. Nebraska makes chicken salad!” Johnson said on the call.
College football fans loved Johnson’s “chicken salad” line but loved even more that he was the one making the call.

Gus Johnson will be back on Saturday for the huge matchup between Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes and the College Football Playoff National Championship Game runner-up TCU Horned Frogs.
That game should have a lot more touchdowns that Johnson can give us.
