In high school, Omot the Mankato East Cougars to the state tournament where they finished third. He then accepted a scholarship to North Dakota as an athletic and raw forward.
His two years at NoDak saw his game come together and he started all 65 games over his freshman and sophomore seasons. He averaged 16.7 points per game as a sophomore and 4.2 rebounds, leading the Fighting Hawks to their best season since 2017.
He parlayed those two seasons into an offer from Cal where Omot started the team’s first four games this season for the Bears, averaging 10.8 points per game, but then suffered an injury and missed the entirety of the season.
Now, likely with a medical redshirt, Omot entered the portal again and is coming to Minnesota with two seasons of eligibility.
He will likely be a starter on the perimeter for Niko Medved and the Gophers. Omot is an athletic forward who is not a great shooter but the kid can score and he is an active defender.
