The 21-year-old has mostly sat on the Timberwolves bench for the last month, appearing in just four games (10 total minutes) in garbage time. Prior to this, he did participate in 16 games during the G League Tip-Off Tournament. Miller stood out as one of the best players on the court, averaging monstrous per game numbers of 24.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.9 blocks, and 1.6 three pointers on .510/.361/.870 splits. That was good enough to be named the G League Player of the Month in November, and named on the All-Showcase Team in December.
During the 2023 NBA All-Star game festivities, Miller took part in the NBA G League Next Up Game, where he got a taste of the bright lights before he was even drafted. This year, it’ll be a step up in competition. Miller will participate on the G League team as one of the four different squads who play in a single elimination tournament bracket. The other three teams will be selected in a draft comprised of the 21 rookies and sophomores on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 3:00 pm CT.
A wrinkle to pay attention to is that rookie Jared McCain was selected for this game, but he is slated to miss the rest of the NBA season due to knee injury. That means they will need to replace McCain with another rookie. Could Minnesota’s rookie and fan favorite, Rob Dillingham, get the call up now that he’s getting more playing time? It’s also possible that assume other replacement candidates may include Ron Holland of the Detroit Pistons and Kel’el Ware of the Miami HEAT.
The actual Rising Stars game will take place on Friday, February 14th at 8:00pm CT and televised on TNT. Tune in to root on Miller as he continues through his NBA journey.
