One of those who parrot this notion is a former multiple-time DPOY in his own right, Dwight Howard, as he believes that Gobert did not deserve to win the prestigious award as many times as he has. “I don’t think he deserved those Defensive Player of the Years like he got them. I feel like he’s a great team defender but for what he did to get those Defensive Player of the Years, I don’t see it. I don’t see him being an elite defender,” Howard said in an appearance on Gil’s Arena.

On @KFAN1003 today, Tim Connelly was asked about Rudy Gobert’s finger injury during the Olympics and said that “it’s fine now”.
Connelly said he didn’t know the exact terminology for what the procedure was, but did say the finger was “opened up” during the Olympics. – 4:39 PM

One-time Charlotte players in our GOAT list:
60. Robert Parish (played in Charlotte at age 41)
63. Dwight Howard (age 32)
69. Tony Parker (age 36)
This is one of the most depressing things I’ve tweeted. (They’ve been around 35 seasons already).

There was another team that Howard was interested in going to so he could give his career a fresh start. “I wanted to beat the Lakers, they had just beat us in the Finals so in my mind I’m like ‘Why would I go to the team that just beat us?’ I wanted to go to Brooklyn and just start my whole career over but I got sent to LA,” Howard said. “It didn’t work out, and I made an emotional decision to leave… I didn’t really make a smart, logical decision, I just made an emotional decision at the time.” -via Clutch Points / August 29, 2024

Myles Turner: If they get this award to somebody and in the playoffs you can expose that like you talk about. If he may be great at this but not so great at this, yeah we going at that. That’s why when guys like Marcus Smart wins it’s like I tip my cap to sh*t like that because he really a dog, he switches one through four, one through five, he can really guard everybody. But in Rudy’s case like I give respect to him because like when you’re playing Minnesota in the playoffs you know you’re not going downhill just against him but in the switch situations yeah everybody brings him out and and exposes him and whatnot so he does his job but it’s an overall award. -via YouTube / August 9, 2024
