The first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Anthony Edwards is already amongst the top handful of best Minnesota Timberwolves players of all-time. Last season, he was a large reason why the team reached the Western Conference Finals for just the second time in their franchise’s history. Just 23 years old, Edwards has only begun to scratch the surface on what he can do in his career. In just his fifth season, Edwards has already a new Timberwolves career record after their game on Saturday.

Edwards Now Has Set New Timberwolves Record For Career Three-Pointers
Minnesota had one of their most impressive performances of the season on Saturday. They easily took care of business with a dominant 133-104 victory at home against the Denver Nuggets, a team the Timberwolves eliminated in last year’s postseason. The Timberwolves have had some struggles on the year, but the win improved their record to 24-21.
In the outing, Edwards was able to take it to Denver on the offensive end. He finished with 34 points on 14-23 shooting from the field, 3-8 from beyond the arc, and 3-4 from the foul line. With his three made three-pointers, Edwards now has the new Timberwolves record for threes made with the franchise after Saturday.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has now connected on 976 three-pointers in his career. That is one more than Karl-Anthony Towns, who previously held the Timberwolves record with 975. Seen as one of the best big man shooters of all-time, Towns was surprisingly traded to the New York Knicks late in the offseason. The first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft shot 39.8% from three-point range while donning the Timberwolves jersey for nine seasons.
Edwards was able to set the new career franchise mark in just his 347th game. He nailed 171 three-pointers as a rookie in 2020-21, the sixth-most ever by a first-year player. The following two seasons, Edwards was able to hit more than 200 shots from three-point territory (215 in 2021-22, 213 in 2022-23).
Hitting Three-Pointers At A Rate Rarely Seen
While Edwards has hit his fair share of threes prior to this season, he has taken it to another level in 2024-25. In his 45 outings, he leads the NBA in both three-pointers made (187) and attempted (440). On the season, he had made 42.5% of his three-point tries. That is a stark improvement over his 35.3% three-point accuracy over his first four seasons. It has also come on greater volume as well (9.8 three-point attempts per game in 2024-24, 7.4 attempts first four seasons).
With 187 made threes in 45 games, Edwards should set the Timberwolves franchise record for most in a season with plenty of time to spare. The current record holder is Malik Beasley, now of the Detroit Pistons, who made 240 for Minnesota in the 2021-22 season. Edwards is now on pace to connect on 341 three-pointers in 2024-24.
If Edwards keeps up that pace, it would be the fifth-most ever in a single season. It would only place behind three Stephen Curry seasons as well as one from James Harden. Curry’s 402 in the 2015-16 season is the most in NBA history.
